Q. WHAT IF I DON’T WANT MY CHILD TO BRING HOME A CHROMEBOOK?

A. While our hope is that all students will take their Chromebook home to complete school work and to be charged, we understand that in some limited instances it makes sense for the device to stay at school. In those cases, we will provide a location for the device to be stored and charged overnight.

Q. WHAT IF I CAN’T AFFORD $20 A YEAR?

A. If you are unable to afford the fee, please contact your school office to make arrangements.

Q. WHAT IF MY CHILD BREAKS THEIR DEVICE?

A. The first time a device is damaged the repair cost will be covered by the $20 fee that was paid to take the device home. Subsequent repairs will be done with a cost to families as follows:
1st repair - $0
2nd repair - Up to $60
3rd repair - Up to $100
4th and additional repairs - Up to the full cost of the device. The full replacement cost is approximately $200.

Q. WHAT IF MY CHILD LOSES THEIR DEVICE OR CHARGER?

A. Please report the loss as soon as possible. We will work to help or locate the device. There likely will be a cost for replacement. The full replacement cost is approximately $200.

Q. CAN I ADD MY OWN INSURANCE TO THE DEVICE?

A. While we don't encourage it, you are welcome to add insurance through your own provider to help with the cost in the event of loss or damage to the Chromebook.

Q. CAN THE DEVICE BE USED FOR NON SCHOOL WORK? 

A. While the device is intended to be used for school work, personal use is acceptable as well. Keep in mind that all use must adhere to the Lake Fenton Community Schools Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).

Q. CAN MY CHILD LOOK AT INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT ON THE DEVICE AT SCHOOL OR AT HOME?

A. The District utilizes an Internet content filter that is in compliance with the federally mandated Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). All Chromebooks, within the School District network, will have all Internet activity monitored by the District. Students will also be subject to content filtering at home while on District-owned Chromebooks. However, The content filter is not perfect. Parents should actively monitor their child's Internet usage.
